**Washington, D.C.**

Open letter to President Donald J. Trump: The Citizens of Washington, DC are appalled with your characterization of our young people as “born to be criminals”.

Dear President Trump,

In your September 2, 2025 media briefing you made reference to the young people of Washington, DC as being “born to be criminals”. How unbecoming of a leader. Our young people are born to mothers and fathers whom many have, in my opinion, haphazardly helped to vote you back into office. Since our young people are the offspring of many Americans who have deemed you qualified and fit to lead, it remains shocking that you would throw these parents under the bus to justify your questionable demonstration of militarized force in our city.

If in fact your deployment and use of the National Guard in the streets of Washington, DC is, as you have said, a necessary action, it would seem that your negligent depictions of our young people have caused you to contradict your supposed sound understanding of the actions you’ve chosen to take with the National Guard here in our city. Branding our young people as “born criminals” helps to influence their internalization of “being born criminals,” leading to a higher likelihood of engaging in criminal behavior due to lowered self-esteem and reduced opportunities for positive development.

Your continued absence of intellectual analyses of what lies at the root of the perpetrated crime in Washington, DC sets a low expectation for the qualifications of the office that you currently hold. Declaring that DC’s young people are “born to be criminals” perpetuates harmful stereotypes, hinders effective “non-militarized” intervention strategies, and damages the healthy implications of a civilized society.

Are those in your inner circle “born to be pedophiles”? In reference to being “born a criminal,” does it take one to know one? Are you some sort of verified expert on the matter? How would your parents feel if you were labeled “born to be criminal,” given your judicial track record? Who among you are “born to be criminals”? Have you examined the repeated missteps, falsehoods, and entitled cronyism occurring within your very own realm of leadership?

As tax-paying citizens, we vehemently reject your continued attacks on our young people. If your intentions are to truly address the crime in Washington, DC, it would be great if you would restore the $1.1 billion dollars that was erroneously taken from tax-paying DC citizens by your colleagues in the House of Representatives, and commit to holding our local elected leadership to higher standards of crime management.

You appear to believe that you have inherent rights of immunity to announce to the world that Washington, DC’s young people are “born to be criminals”.

How awful of a human being to attack young people in our city, as if you would ever understand the pitfalls of intentional poverty, systemic racism, or bigotry.

The fact that you can call yourself an American in the very city, and on the very soil that many ancestors of these “born to be criminals” have shed blood, sweat, and tears, enduring some of the harshest and cruel treatment to build our capital city, is hypocrisy and a shameful case of amnesia.

We are certain that your show of reckless leadership will be counteracted by a continuous oversight of Washington, DC citizens who will not cower nor abandon our efforts to regain full control of our city in spite of your perceived intentions to destroy our resolve.

Attacking our young people and branding them as “born to be criminals” is a low we must say, even for you. As you have been sincerely reminded, mental health matters Mr. President, and anyone in your position should be equipped with the moral fortitude to understand this very real fact.

Where did you learn to be so criminal? Were you born with it?
