Dr. Hamilton has spent over 20 years in the financial industry helping families to persevere and to achieve their piece of the “American Dream”, while also simultaneously caring for and helping her mentally challenged mother, to navigate the mental health and social service systems in Wash., DC for well over two decades of institutionalized care. (Regina Fleming, in memoriam, January 7, 2022)
Dr. Hamilton is the former broker and owner of Coldwell Banker’s 1st African American real estate franchised-owned brokerage in Prince Georges County, Maryland, entitled Coldwell Banker Household Realty. Currently, as the owner and President of the Waterfront Insurance Network which specializes in finding consumers quality insurance coverage at affordable prices, in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, Dr. Hamilton intends to empower DC citizens through the introduction of insurance sales, and wealth-building classes, as well as hosting financial education workshops.
Dr. Hamilton has served on the United Planning Organization’s (U.P.O.) Health Advisory Council Board. She has also served as “The Executive on Call” radio personality with the World Power Gospel Radio (W.P.G.R.) in Prince Georges County, Maryland, where she helped to introduce beneficial, knowledge-based, and expert “subject matter” programming to her listeners under the tutelage of Dr. Anthony T. Mays, W.P.G.R.’s President, owner, and the nephew of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, civil rights leader, humanitarian, & educator.
Dr. Hamilton is a native of Washington, D.C. Ward 8, and was educated in the District Public School System. As a dean’s list, business management major during her studies at the University of the District of Columbia, she also donned the UDC Firebirds cheerleading uniform for a brief period upon returning from her travels in Budingen, Germany as a U.S. ARMY dependent. In 2001, the loss of her father and hero, to a heroin/opioid addiction many years after his “post military” struggles opened Dr. Hamilton’s eyes to the harsh realities of living daily with trauma.
The M.I. Mother’s Keeper organization under the direct guidance of Dr. Hamilton spearheads mental health programming and outreach work across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, with specific focuses on providing outreach programs, resource linkage, housing, and mental health case management for individuals, and families located across DC, paying specific attention to individuals and families who live in marginalized communities’ representative of those in which Dr. Hamilton was raised.
In 2019 Dr. Hamilton, and the Healthy DC & Me Leadership Coalition launched its “Capital City Emergency “Level II” Trauma & Wellness Center Project” with the intent on helping to raise the awareness for the need to eradicate healthcare, and economic disparities in communities across DC, and to help with intentionally breaking the cycles of unhealthy living, and patterns of negative behaviors that are plaguing far too many communities of low-income citizens who live in the District of Columbia.
In 2020, Dr. Hamilton received her honorary Doctorate of Human Letters from “The Fishers of Men University”, for her outstanding work as an emerging community leader in matters involving mental health, trauma-informed resourcing, community programming, activism outreach, education, and humanitarian endeavors.
In 2022 Dr. Hamilton challenged the current Mayor of Washington, DC in the general mayoral election, as a “write-in” candidate. Although unsuccessful she gained the admiration and support of many Washingtonians who were like Dr. Hamilton, and recognized the need for change with regards to the existing elected leadership in the Nation’s Capital.
Dr. Hamilton continues to spearhead mental health programming, case management, and outreach work in the District of Columbia, and her organization’s work has since expanded into Prince George’s County Maryland. Dr. Hamilton has plans to enter the 2026 DC Mayoral Race with much promise and a renewed focus on matters involving healthier community and societal outcomes.
I am Dr. Rhonda L. Hamilton and I approve this message.
