2026 DC Mayoral Candidate, Dr. Rhonda Hamilton launches the Commission on Wellness advisory council initiative to help address the District of Columbia’s looming healthcare crisis.
Washington, DC – Dr. Rhonda L. Hamilton, 2026 candidate for Mayor of Washington, D.C., today announced the introduction of a groundbreaking Campaign Advisory Commission on Wellness task force aimed at safeguarding Medicaid services and ensuring that underserved families in the District of Columbia continue to receive critical health support amidst looming federal budget cuts. Dr. Hamilton welcomes to the Commission on Wellness, renowned Dr. David Moskowitz, MD and Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Mary Roach, recipient of the 2025 Global Woman Award in Health Policy, and Dr. Jason L. Hanna, leadership psychologist, coach, and minister.
Recognizing the vital importance of accessible healthcare, especially for our most vulnerable residents, the Commission on Wellness will establish a dedicated advisory council composed of healthcare professionals, community leaders, and stakeholders. This council will work collaboratively to develop sustainable strategies to protect Medicaid funding, advocate for policy solutions, and expand access to preventive and primary care services.
“Healthcare is a fundamental human right,” said Dr. Rhonda Hamilton. “As Mayor, I am committed to proactively addressing the potential threats to Medicaid and ensuring that no family in our city is left without the essential care they deserve. Our Wellness Initiative will serve as a cornerstone in building a healthier, more resilient Washington, D.C.”
The campaign emphasizes a comprehensive approach, including community outreach programs, partnerships with local health organizations, and advocacy efforts to influence state and federal policy decisions. The initiative also aims to increase awareness about available resources and empower residents to participate actively in their healthcare.
The upcoming campaign trail will see Dr. Hamilton engaging with residents, healthcare providers, and community advocates to further refine and implement this vital initiative. The goal is to create a robust framework that not only mitigates the impact of potential Medicaid cuts but also promotes overall wellness and health equity across the nation’s capital.
